Early last year, when COVID-19 threatened to overwhelm New York’s healthcare system, members of The Nippon Club and Japanese Chamber of Commerce Industry of New York (JCCI) asked the question on everyone’s mind: What can we do to help? The answer has been a unique initiative to support the city’s exhausted medical workers by providing delicious Japanese foods prepared in the restaurant of The Nippon Club. Launched on May 7, 2020, and still going strong, the “Let’s Support COVID-19 Fighters! Let’s deliver ‘Bento’ lunch boxes to medical workers in New York” project has been honored with a special award.
In recognition of the project’s achievements, the Consulate General of Japan in New York presented us with the award of The 2020 Consul General‘s Commendation. The award ceremony was held at the Ambassador’s official residence on February 23, the Japanese Emperor’s birthday. Kanji Yamanouchi, Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York, handed the certificate of commendation to Hidenori Takaoka, President of the Nippon Club.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the companies and individuals who sponsored this project. We believe it is our responsibility to preserve this project as long as we can support our hardworking medical workers.
Please help us to deliver as many Japanese “Bento” boxes as possible to those working in the medical field with gratitude and support, and to make them happy with delicious foods.
