Reciprocal Club Membership with The International House of Japan

    【How to Use / Overview】

The Nippon Club and the International House of Japan (I-House) begin a reciprocal club relationship on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Members of the Nippon Club can therefore use the International House of Japan’s facilities during their visit to Japan.

I-House is a private, nonprofit organization incorporated in 1952 with support from the Rockefeller Foundation and other private institutions and individuals for the purpose of promoting cultural exchange and intellectual cooperation between the peoples of Japan and other countries. The I-House building was constructed in 1955 under the collaboration of three prominent Japanese architects—Maekawa Kunio, Sakakura Junzō, and Yoshimura Junzō. The I-House building has been awarded the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize, and in August 2006 it was registered as a tangible cultural property by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan. Located in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, the facility has conference rooms, banquet halls, dining rooms, a library, and accommodations.

The garden, which was designed in 1929 by the seventh-generation famed Kyoto landscape artist Ogawa Jihei (also known as Ueji) for Iwasaki Koyata, the fourth-generation head of the Mitsubishi conglomerate, has retained its design unchanged from those days. Designated as a place of scenic beauty by Minato Ward, the garden is exclusively open to I-House members.
