Miho Murakami Oil Painting Exhibition “Ascending Apples”

The Nippon Gallery is pleased to host Oil Painting Exhibition by Miho Murakami, “Ascending Apples” from September 13 to 19, 2018.

Miho Murakami is an oil painting artist born in 1946, in Kobe City, Hyogo, who has been studying the basics from age 10. After graduating from art school, she chose to develop her own unique style, rather than join an established painting school.

After experiencing the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, Miho started painting works that projected the human “heart” to the apples. Miho is on an almost excessive quest of the world of “apples”.

“In expressing my heart, I think that a common object that everyone knows is understood more straightforwardly, rather than painting myself, so I continue to paint apples for depicting hearts, souls and love,” Miho says.

The brilliant “red” is a main component in her works. Red is a color that can be energetic. The color symbolizes vitality and dynamism and it is reminiscent of affection, passion from images of blood and flames. By ignoring the perspective, and drawing the same size spheres, viewers can get a sense that the apples are amplifying, overflowing and spinning while ascending. They are sublimated from a flat surface to three dimensions, and then to a world overcoming dimensionality. The energy bursting forth from the paintings gives birth to passion, liveliness and love. The paintings are said to bring viewers happiness and vitality for success. The image of the Edo era’s Ukiyo-e are embodied in this structure of simplified symbolic realistic expression and abstraction.

At the exhibition, about 40 oil paintings with “hearts” as themes will be displayed. Please enjoy the highly creative works brimming with powerful dynamism by Miho Murakami.
