Nippon Club Hybrid Holiday Party 2021

The Nippon Club is pleased to present “Holiday Party 2021,” a hybrid event that will be held in-person on Wednesday, December 15, at the Nippon Club Tower, and streamed online from December 22-24. Please join us in-person or virtually for a night of top-notch entertainment with delicious food!

This year’s entertainments will be live performances by New York club jazz diva Monday Michiru and her quartet; and by Broadway singers Ryan Silverman, whose performance The New York Times noted as “standing in memory,” and Ali Ewoldt, who debuted in 2006 as Cosette in Les Miserables and played as Maria in West Side Story.

At the “in-person” event, you will be able to enjoy a luxurious buffet prepared by Chef Yasuoka with a selection of drinks such as sparkling wine. For the “virtual event,” you will be able to pick up the Nippon Club’s special lunch box to eat at home or in the office while enjoying the performance via live streaming. We will also have some great raffle prizes at the in-person event. We hope that our party will brighten up the holiday season even though COVID-19 continues as last year.

(Jazz Vocal / Flute)

MONDAY満ちるBorn in Tokyo, Japan and raised bicoastally in the U.S., Monday Michiru, so named to reflect both her Japanese and American-Italian heritages, started music classically on flute studying at Interlochen Arts Academy on scholarship, gravitating later to vocals, composition and production. In 1987 she debuted in the Japanese movie “Hikaru Onna” which garnered her Best New Actress awarded by the Japan Film Academy. Her subsequent move back to Japan furthered her career in acting in films, television and on-stage plays, as well as in music, hosting her own radio programs, modeling, performing in fashion corporate events, and as a journalist. Since her solo album debut in 1991, Monday has released self-produced albums on an annual basis both as a soloist and collaborator, and is known as one of the pioneers of the Japanese acid jazz movement. While she boasts countless dance floor hits worldwide, Monday’s compositional style and repertoire has evolved to that which is undeniably hers with reflections of jazz, soul, Brazilian, folk, and other urban and world flavors. Monday currently resides in New York, continues to record and perform worldwide, and heads the lyric writing workshops Lyricize.

“…she’s got that certain crossover appeal that is fluent in urban R&B, contemporary jazz, rock and infectious Brazilian rhythms, resulting in music that’s not easily categorized, yet is thoroughly engaging.”
— All About Jazz

“At a time when music is in a state of flux mostly as a result of the virtual collision of idioms and metaphors, it is a joy to hear the voice of Monday Michiru.”
— Latin Jazz Network

“A small, beautiful woman with endless power.”
