【Event Report】Autumn Performing Arts Event 2025: Masato Yamada “KATARI~The Art of Storytelling: The Master-Disciple Story of Hideki Matsui”

This year, our annual Autumn Music event was held as two separate events under the title “Autumn Performing Arts Event 2025.” The first installment, “KATARI~The Art of Storytelling: The Master-Disciple Story of Hideki Matsui” by Masato Yamada took place on Friday, October 10 at the Nippon Club Tower.
The event started with an opening remarks by Mr. Masaaki Maeda, VP & Assistant Secretary of the Nippon Club.
“The Art of Storytelling” is a unique performance art by actor and entertainer Mr. Masato Yamada. Through meticulous research and his distinctive narrative style, he crafts biographies of athletes and cultural figures. Using only a microphone and spotlight, he delivers storytelling based on true events, conveying the hidden human drama and its profound emotion. Mr. Yamada, who traveled from Japan to New York for this event, visited Yankee Stadium the day before the event to get pumped up, as it was where the story’s protagonist, Hideki Matsui, played. He was fully prepared and presented “The Master-Disciple Story of Hideki Matsui.”
Mr. Yamada captivated the audience with his expressive storytelling, blending tears and laughter. He shared anecdotes about Mr. Matsui and Mr. Shigeo Nagashima while making eye contact with each attendee. The event reached its peak when he delivered an impromptu horse racing commentary, bringing the crowd to a fever pitch.

At the “Art of Storytelling” networking reception, attendees enjoyed food, drinks, and networking opportunities with fellow members and participants. Mr. Yamada also joined us and kindly posed for photos with attendees. Mr. Masato Yamada shared that he is studying English with the goal of one day performing ‘KATARI’ in English in the U.S. We look forward to seeing him perform “KATARI” in English next time.
