Nippon Club 2025 Autumn Performing Arts Event Pre-Event of “An Evening of Traditional Japanese Arts” at Carnegie Hall “An Invitation to Japanese Traditional Performing Arts”

The Nippon Club is pleased to announce that Kabuki actor Hayato Nakamura and Kabuki Hayashi musician Denjiro Tanaka will be appearing at the Nippon Club Tower on Wednesday, November 12, for “An Invitation to Japanese Traditional Performing Arts,” part of the Nippon Club’s 2025 Autumn Performing Arts Event schedule.

Mr. Nakamura, who is to perform in “An Evening of Traditional Japanese Arts” at Carnegie Hall on November 14, and Mr. Tanaka, general producer, will present a preview of the event and discuss how to enjoy Noh and Kabuki. The program will also include a tsuzumi drum performance and a Kabuki workshop, offering attendees the chance to experience traditional Japanese performing arts up close. (Please note that this program will be conducted in Japanese, and no interpretation will be provided.)

Following the event, a networking reception (food & drinks) will be held, providing an opportunity for members to connect. Please join us!

“An Evening of Traditional Japanese Arts,” taking place at Carnegie Hall on Friday, November 14, is a New York performance centered around the Sankyokai. It features a one-night-only special performance showcasing the appeal of Noh and Kabuki, with many practitioners of traditional Japanese performing arts, including Kabuki actor Hayato Nakamura, Noh performers, shamisen players, and Japanese drum performers. The program includes the Sankyokai version of “Funabenkei,” the “Dojōji Suite,” and collaborative works blending Noh and Kabuki.

Hayato Nakamura

Born November 30, 1993, in Kagoshima City. Eldest son of Nakamura Kinsuke II. Made his stage debut in February 2002 at the Kabuki-za as Matsuo Maru Ichiko Kotaro in “Terakoya,” performing under the name Nakamura Hayato I. He has been one of the leading actors showing remarkable growth in recent years, playing triple roles as Sanji/Inazuma/Marco in Super Kabuki II “One Piece” and being selected for dual lead roles in ‘NARUTO’ and “Oguri.” Beyond new Kabuki productions, he successfully took on a major role in the March 2024 Nanzō performance of “Onna Koroshi Abura Jigoku” under the guidance of Living National Treasure, the 15th generation Kataoka Nizaemon. He has also appeared in numerous television dramas.


Denjiro Tanaka

Tanaka Denjiro VII was born as the youngest of three brothers in 1977 into a family with strong musical traditions. He made his stage debut at the age of three in the Noh play Tamura and assumed his current stage name in 1994. He has performed on various prominent kabuki stages across Japan as well as overseas in London, Paris, New York, Singapore, and Rome. Apart from performing in staged productions, he actively engages in composing music for new and revival kabuki repertoires. His late father, Kamei Tadao, a drummer of the Kadono School of Noh Hayashi Musicians was a ‘Living National Treasure’ and their mother, Tanaka Sataro IX, serves as the head of the Tanaka School of Kabuki Hayashi Musicians. Together with their elder brothers Kamei Hirotada and Tanaka Denzaemon VIII, Denjirō produces and performs as Sankyōkai. They are recognised as General Holders of Important Cultural Property.
