About The Nippon Club
The Nippon Club is a private social club. In 1905, it was established by Dr. Jokichi Takamine, a famous chemist and its first president, to tighten the unity of the Japanese business community in New York and their families, and to develop a better relationship with the American people. For over 100 years, The Nippon Club, which is the only Japanese social club in the U.S., has contributed to the continued friendship, not to mention ongoing business and cultural exchange, between the two countries. This year, the Club will relocate its headquarters—which has been located on 57th Street since 1963—to Fifth Avenue, marking a new beginning to better serve its members.
The Nippon Club is comprised of both corporate and individual members. The clubhouse is designed to provide a comfortable and satisfying space for members, featuring a Wagashi (Japanese confectionery) cafe and a Japanese restaurant, as well as various large and small rooms that can be used for multiple purposes such as parties, seminars, and meetings. A wide range of activities are offered to members; in addition to outdoor sports tournaments for baseball, golf, and tennis, the Club actively hosts a variety of indoor events, including networking gatherings, seminars, lectures, and concerts. By holding these athletic events and cultural activities, as well as by providing the facilities where they can occur, The Nippon Club has cemented itself as one of New York’s oldest cultural institutions and it will continue to serve the community from the center of the world’s most international metropolitan area.
