Let’s Support COVID-19 Fighters!
~Deliver bento boxes to frontline workers in NY!
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic, and although vaccination has progressed, healthcare workers are still busy treating patients on daily basis. The Nippon Club wondered if there was anything we could do to help, and launched the “Let’s Support COVID-19 Fighters ~Deliver bento boxes to frontline workers in NY!” project on May 7, 2020, and the project is still ongoing.
With the cooperation of member companies and Dr. Robert Yanagisawa, a professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and President of the Japanese Medical Society of America (JMSA), the Nippon Club and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York (JCCI) have delivered 130 boxed lunches to two hospitals once a week.
We currently deliver bento boxes to 17 hospitals, including Mount Sinai, Montefiore Medical Center, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Stony Brook University Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital Center, Harlem Hospital Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, and Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital.
“As one of the first inpatient COVID Response Team members at the Mount Sinai Hospital, I spoke about how all medical personnel has been working together to help patients through this pandemic,” Dr. Yanagisawa said. “I’m sure it will be a very nice treat for your residents on the front line.”
Since 2022, we have been providing bento boxes not only to medical professionals, but also to frontline workers such as the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
